ELEPHANTS of Ivory Coast skipper, Yaya Toure has equaled Nwankwo Kanu and Jay-Jay Okocha's BBC African Footballer of the Year record after been named the 2015 winner.The Manchester City midfielder has now claimed the award twice after winning it 2013.
“I am very proud. To receive this dedication from the fans is unbelievable,” Yaya Toure told BBC Sport.
“Also I want to pay tribute to the other nominees. African football is growing up, becoming much better and we have fantastic young players coming through now.
The former Barcelona player was up against Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ghana striker Andre Ayew, Algeria’s Yacine Brahimi and the Senegalese winger Sadio ManĂ©.
“We are all champions. We all want to win. For me to be the winner I am delighted and very happy. And as an African player, I want to lead all my younger brothers to be successful in the future,” the Ivorian midfielder added.
“I will continue to try to win a trophy every year, I will fight to win a personal trophy.”
