DISTINGUISH Senator of the Federal Republic representing Oyo North Senatorial District, Dr. Abdulfatai Buhari, has expressed his support for the Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament.
The tourney which enters its Season 4 is meant for teams in the Nigeria Professional Football League, National League and Nationwide League One to prepare for the new season.
In a chat with the organizers, Senator Buhari who donated the trophy Kano Pillars won in the last edition noted; “I was impressed with the response I got from last edition that I donated trophy and now I decided to introduce cash prize, trophy and medals so as to add glamour to the tournament," he said.
The former chairman of Nigeria National League side, Crown FC of Ogbomosho further said, "Football is the only sports that unites the country and off course make our youth shun social vices, sponsoring the pre-season tourney is my own little way getting the participating teams prepare well for the up coming soccer season in the country.”
General Coordinator of the tourney, Tunde Shamsudeen, while expressing his gratitude said; "We have moved further in ensuring we make the tournament a big brand. Senator Buhari, donated trophy for the last edition, now he has moved a step further ensuring that cash prize, trophy and medals will be awarded to the Season 4 champions.”
"This is a welcome development for the tourney, as I call on other well meaning individuals and indeed cooperate Nigeria to come and sponsor this prestigious tournament."
Defending champions, Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars, Remo Stars, MFM FC, Crown FC, Niger Tornadoes FC, FC Ebedei, Supreme Court among others are teams that will light up the tournament as from November 25, through December 4, 2016.
