BENINESE international, Junior Salomon is set to quit relegated Bayelsa United, as NaijaSportsXtra can report.
The centre-back whose place in the Les Squirrel could be thrown open if he does not play top football next season, as Benin Republic vie for a qualification spot in the 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon.
Though the Tony Ogola led board has not made the club’s intentions public after been relegated, but it’s expected that some players will leave, a few will stay and others will be considered as surplus requirement.According to the club’s media officer, Eddy Ohis: “As we speak, the team is on break after we got relegated, more so no player has made his intention known to us.
“However, the news of players leaving because of elite football action is not strange, as we expect some of our good players to turn in a transfer request.
“We know we won’t be able to keep Salomon and other good ones, as they will definitely be poached by clubs in and outside the shores of Nigeria.
“The club too will be pro-active; we will embark on a major shakeup, as only players whose mindset is to helping the club regain its Nigeria Premier League status will be retained, while others considered to be surplus requirements, will be placed on the transfer market.
“Reasons for this shakeup will amount to the club cutting its wage bill, and also having the needed funds to embark on hitch-free pre-season camping as we look forward to a new life in the lower division.”
Recall, this is the second time the Yenegoa side has relegated from the topflight since claiming the Nigeria Premier League in 2011.
