NIGERIA could slide in the FIFA Rankings for February or March following its early exit from the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda reports NaijaSportsXtra.
Recall, the World football governing body had in 2014 sanctioned matches at CHAN for the monthly ranking for African teams.
So Nigeria who began 2016 as the 66th best footballing nation could drop, as the Coach Oliseh led Home-Based Eagles who needed just a point after recording a win and draw against Niger Republic and Tunisia respectively in Group C, failed to advance after losing by a lone goal to Guinea who made the last eight on 5points and Tunisia too who thrashed Niger 5-0 in the final group games.
Meanwhile, Oliseh said after the shocking loss to Guinea, “It’s a big disappointment, but I’m proud of my boys even though we did not go through. They gave their best. We came out to win, but we did not,” he added.
However, the new rankings will be published by FIFA on 4th of February.
