TECHNICAL Adviser Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi, Godwin Koko Uwa, has commended the organisers of the Gold Cup for staging the pre-season championship.
The Gold Cup features top teams in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars, Giwa FC, Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Crown FC, Remo Stars Supreme Court FC, COD United and NationWide League One teams of FC Ebedei and Imperial FC.
The veteran soccer tactician said after his team's practice session that: "The championship is a good avenue for top teams to shape up for the season.The Gold Cup features top teams in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars, Giwa FC, Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Crown FC, Remo Stars Supreme Court FC, COD United and NationWide League One teams of FC Ebedei and Imperial FC.
"Kudos to the organizer (Tunde Shamsudeen) for dragging teams like Kano Pillars, Giwa FC and other teams to the tourney, as any of the NPL teams can win the league
"For us at Lobi Stars, it's not about winning as it will help us to know our strength and weakness.
"For the talented players in the lower division, one or two of them could get signed by the top flight teams if they do well against them."
The Food Basket team who are in Group B play their first game against Crown FC of Ogbomoso.
