OSUN State Football Association boss, Taiwo Ogunjobi, Wednesday morning expressed in deep sorrow at the news of the death of ex-Super Eagles Captain and Coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi.
Ogunjobi, who is also the Chairman of Prime Football Club in a statement signed by his media aide, Tunde Shamsudeen, described the demise of Keshi as sad, shocking, unfortunate and a huge loss to football in the Nigeria.
Ogunjobi, said he received the news with great shock and he is yet to recover from it and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and for God to console his family, friends, colleagues and the football family and to grant all the fortitude to bear her painful exit.
The news of the death of Keshi aged 54, filtered in the early hours on Wednesday and coaches and backroom staff of Prime FC could not hold back their tears to mourn the deceased.The former Secretary General of Nigeria Football Federation eulogized Keshi's contributions to the growth of football while as a player and coach and admits he will greatly missed his former teammate and captain in Eagles to 1984 Nations Cup and prayed God to grant the departed souls mercy.
“This news is disheartening and a national disaster. It\'s a sad moment and big loss for Nigeria football. Keshi gave his entire life to Nigeria football, he was my captain to 1984 Nations Cup and he was my captain when we played together against Morocco. It\'s a big loss to football family, and he deserved a national burial by the Federal Government.\'
However, former NFF Executive Committee Member, Elder Dickson Adejube, has expressed deepest shock over the sudden death of Keshi.
“I am shocked upon hearing the sad news of the passing on of Stephen Keshi. I sympathize with the football family and coaches association and I will implore the Federal Government to name the Abuja National Stadium after Keshi and I am praying God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss,” He said.
