THE Rivers State Government has concluded plans to host players and officials of Rivers United FC to a grand reception following its impressive showing in the just concluded Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.
United finished in second place with 60 points from 36 matches which means that they will represent Nigeria in the 2017 Caf Champions League.
It was a feat pulled off at the first time of asking following the formation of the club on February 19, 2016.
The reception ceremony will hold on Saturday, October 8 at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt with Sports Commissioner, Honourable Boma Iyaye revealing that it will be used to honour the heroes who have done the State proud.
“The State is planning a reception for the team and everything is being put in place to see that it is a success.
“Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt did remarkably well in a very short period of existence and the feat achieved has not gone unnoticed by the Rivers State Government.
“The Government will use the ceremony to recognize the success of the team,” Honourable Iyaye said.
Responding on behalf of players and officials of the club, General Manager, Chief Okechukwu Kpalukwu thank the Rivers State Government for the massive support which made it possible for the side to secure a ticket to next season’s prestigious Caf Champions League.yq
