Gombe  United edge Dreams FC to NPL ticket

By Rasaq Oboirien
GOMBE United returned to the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) in style after they stung Supreme Court of Abuja 1-3 on the final game of the season, reports NiajaSportsXtra.blogspot.com.
The Savannah Scorpions who gave their campaign a huge boost after they pipped Kwara United in Ilorin on Matchday 12, needed victories against Adamawa United and the Apex Court team as the race for the Division A2 ticket went down the wire between them and Dominic Iorfa's Dreams International FC.
The Coach Hassan Abubakar side set the pace at the Area 3 Football Pitch in Abuja as Obasasem put the Scorpions up with a 17 minute strike.
Bilya Yarma then doubled the lead for the visiting team two minutes later with a thunderous volley that caught a helpless Supreme Court goalkeeper unaware.
Less than 15 minutes to the second kick-off, Sani Gidado then put the icing on the cake for his team scoring the third goal of the game.
It was however, little too late for the Apex Court team as they got a consolatory goal .
The result meant Gombe United will play topflight football next season despite Dreams International shocking victory against Zamfara United in Gusau, as they leapfrogged the Makurdi based by a point.
