Ajoku’s brace earns Tornadoes first season win

CHIDEERE Blessing Ajoku’s brace against Wikki Tourist of Bauchi was enough to earn Niger Tornadoes FC their first maximum points of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Tornadoes FC started the week 4 NPFL match signaling that they would be attack minded, but it was their visitors that first took a shot at goal in the early stages of the match but went off target.
The Ikon Allah boys who since last season adopted Confluence Stadium, Lokoja continued to attack the visitors but the good reflects of Gambo Gideon in goal denied the host from taking early lead.
As the game seems to have settled down, Niger Tornadoes broke away from the centre circle Ajoku calmly collected a pass from Ibrahim Babawo Abubakar in the 27th minute to open account for the home side.
Niger Tornadoes could have increased the tally as their left full back Husseini Isah dribbled past the Wikki Tourists defenders o drive in a powerful drive but the good reflects of Gideon in goal blocked the shot.
However in resumption into the second half, Niger Tornadoes did continue the game with attacking intent, the defense of the Bauchi Boys stood solid and kept the Minna Landlords at bay.
An assist from Ebenezer Odeyemi in the 72nd minute connected Ajoku who took on two defenders shrugged them off to send a powerful low shot that left goalkeeper Gideon helpless and send spectators into wild frenzy.
Reacting after the match, Ajoku said that he was happy to have opened his goal scoring account on a crucial match.
“Am happy that I scored two goals today, it would not have been possible without the support of my colleagues, and the win today is a collective effort and not all about me’’, he said.
He assured that the best in him was yet to come out and promised that he would work hard to ensure that he improve upon his performance.
With the win Niger Tornadoes has now moved out of the relegation zone with 4 points from 4 matches, occupying 16 position on the log. The team will travel to Enugu to face 2015/2016 NPFL champion on Sunday.
