MALAM Farouk Yarma, Commissioner for Youth Empowerment redeemed his pledge when he splashed a cash gift on Gombe United after they defeated Remo Stars 2-1 on matchday 2 of the Nigeria Premier League, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blogspot.com.
A delighted Yarma disclosed after goals from Austin Oladapo and Fabossou Djoufoune secured the first 3points for the Manu Garba led Savannah Scorpions at the Pantami Stadium.
"A big congratulations to the Management Board, Technical Crew, players and fans of Gombe United.
"I appreciate the persistence determination put in by the whole team.
"As earlier pledged, the two goal scorers, Austin Oladapo and Fabossou Djoufoune will get N20,000 each, while Mannir Ubale who provided the assists for the second goal get N10,000."
The token was presented to the players and team after their last training session on Thursday at the Pantami Stadium by a representative of the Honourable Commissioner.
Yarma, the pioneer Gombe State Sports Commission (GSSC) executive boss and recently named secretary of the club's Advisory Committee, charged the team to keep up the winning tempo even as they have got the Enyimba FC of Aba hurdle to cross this weekend in Calabar.
"I want to appeal with the team and as a word of advice, any team who wants to win title must work hard to ensuring it gets points on the road.
"Who says, the team can kick start the quest with the game against the People's Elephants. Mind you no team is invincible and I know with the crop of players we have and sound coaching crew led by no other person than Manu Garba, Gombe United will make a statement at the end of the season."
