NIGERIA Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders, Plateau United saw their unbeaten of seven matches come to an end after they lost 2-1 to Akwa United on Matchday 8 in Uyo, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blogspot.com.
It took the Promise Keepers less than six minutes to find John Gaadi's net after Christian Pyagabara rounded off the veteran goalkeeper to tap into the net for the first goal of the game.
Ogbonna Anayor should have equalized for his team some minutes later but his first touch on the ball as he was goal bound was too heavy enabling Akwa United to clear for a corner.
The second half was more entertaining as it produced to classic goals from both teams.
Five minutes after the restart of the game, Alhassan Ibrahim put Akwa United two goals up after his close range volley beat Gaadi in goal as his defence line switched off.
Goalkeeper Emmanuel Iwu stepped up his game as he denied the visitors the chance of scoring a goal after he made a few saves.
Nine minutes after Ibrahim had increased Akwa United's goal tally to two, Coach Kennedy Boboye's tactical change yielded results, as Chima Ndukwu first touch on the ball saw him give the Jos team a life line.
Ndukwu intercepted a lose pass, made a solo run with the ball and then shoot only for goalkeeper Iwu to spill the ball to the left bottom corner of his goal to make 2-1.
Joshua Obaje should have broken the camel's back scoring the equalizing goal on the 83rd minute but his point blank strike from a cross was put to the corner Iwu, whose reflexes were sharp.
The defeat sees Plateau United maintain its first position on the NPFL log with 17points while it was Makiaba's second home win for Akwa United this season.
