STEPHEN Odey's 48th minute audacious strike gave Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club their first away victory of the season against Sunshine Stars FC in Sunday's Matchday 6 fixure of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played at the Akure Township Stadium.
Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu and his wards who muscled out a point with Shooting Stars in their last away game in Ibadan went all out for the maximum three points on Sunday and it was well delivered courtesy of a fine strike from league top scorer Odey, who netted his fifth goal of the season in four NPFL matches.
Sunshine Stars had a glorious chance to break the deadlock in the 14th minute of the encounter when Abbey Joseph tested MFM FC's goalkeeper, Ospino Egbe but the latter pulled a save to deny the hosts their scoring opportunity. The first half ended goalless for the both sides.
Ilechukwu's men continued from where they stopped in the first half with
fine display.
Odey gave the Owena Waves a reality check three minutes into the second half with a lightning shot from edge of the 18 yard box to beat goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo in goal. His season goals tally has increased to five.
The hosts mounted pressure on the visitors but MFM FC's defenders put up a good defensive play with Ospino Egbe pulling great saves.
With the crucial away points in the bag, the Lagos-based team still occupy the second spot on the NPFL standings with 13 points from possible 18.
They will be guests to Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABSFC) of Ilorin on Wednesday.
