CARDIFF CITY, WOLVES DEAL:
Sammy Ameobi will decide this week
CARDIFF City
will find out this week if they have won their tug of war with Wolves over the
capture of Nigerian and Newcastle winger Sammy Ameobi.
The
23-year-old has held talks with Cardiff boss Russell Slade about a potential
season’s loan in the Welsh capital.
But before a
decision on that is made, he needs to put pen to paper on a new contract on
Tyneside and that is expected to be done early this week.
Magpies’
manager Steve McClaren will then permit Ameobi to go out on loan to a
Championship club.
Cardiff are
keen to land the wideman, who made 27 appearances for Newcastle last season,
but has started just 21 games in the Premier League since former-boss Alan
Pardew handed him his debut in 2011.
However, it
seems they are currently second in the pecking order to land him behind
Championship rivals Wolves.
Wanderers’
boss Kenny Jackett was the first to express an interest in taking Ameobi and
sees him as the perfect replacement for Bakary Sako who departed Molineux
following the end of his current contract.
There is
other interest too from the second-tier with Brighton also looking to snatch
Ameobi.
However, it
seems once the Newcastle deal is signed it will be a straight choice between
the Bluebirds and Wolves for the player.
Ameobi has
scored four goals in 66 first team appearances, including a loan spell with
Middlesbrough during the 2013-14 season, but Newcastle hope a campaign in the
Championship will provide a big boost in advancing his development.
