NIGERIA'S cadet side, Golden Eaglets on Wednesday played a pulsating 1-1 draw against their Korean counterparts at the on-going 2015 Suwon Continental Cup International Youth (U-17) Football Tournament. Lee Sangheon scored the curtain raiser as early as the third minute for the home team but Funsho Bamgboye making his debut for Nigeria on the international stage, brought the game into parity in the 26th minute with a lively volley.
Thereafter, it was a ding-dong affair as both teams searched for the winner. Lee Seungwoo, the Korean forward with Barcelona, who was adjudged Man of the match, was a constant threat but was kept at baytime and again by the Nigerian defense. Victor Osimhen, who captained the Eaglets in the absence of Kelechi Nwakali, tried his best on the other end but there were few chances for him to exploit against the host.
“I think it was a fair result though we would have loved to win,” said Eaglets' Coach Emmanuel Amuneke."It was a good game for us; we created more chances in the second half though we failed to take them." With the result, Nigeria and Korea are jointly in second position behind Brazil who beat Croatia 2-1 in the tournament's opening match.
The Eaglets' second game of the Suwon Tournament would be against table leader Brazil while Croatia faces Korea at the Suwon World Cup Stadium.
