THE 2015/16 football season is expected to kick-off after the
African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Rwanda, host the tournament which is meant for home based African stars.
NaijaSportsXtra gathered from one the NPL club top brass who does not want his name published last week after he said in a chat, “I don’t see the new season kicking-off any time soon.
It could be after the CHAN tournament in February next year.“First of all, the League Management Company (LMC) must meet first with the Club Owners to propose a possible commencement date, and possibly let us know if we have got a new title sponsor or we continue with Globacom. They must also harmonies the system, as we have not got official confirmation of the four teams that have been promoted from the lower league to NPL.
“The clubs too, will also need time to recruit and do the players registration too, as well as camp for at least two or three weeks.
“More so it will be fair to some of the clubs whose players will be wearing the country’s colours in Rwanda, to play matches with half strength squad.
“Also, the NFF must set a date for its general assembly, were the report for the season that just ended need be ratified.
“Don’t forget too that it’s after the Champion of Champions game between new NPL kings, Enyimba and Akwa United the Federations Cup winners, we can then begin to countdown to the new season kick-off.
Meanwhile, currently champions Enyimba is the only club that have won the NPL title than any other team since the league kicked off 44 years ago.
