QUIQUE Sanchez Flores has told Watford Observer that Super Eagles ace, Odion Ighalo will remain with Watford until the end of the season but admits “nobody knows” whether the club's top scorer could leave next summer.
The Nigerian has scored 12 goals in 17 Premier League games this season to take his Hornets tally for the calendar year to 28. It could’ve all been so different had the 26-year-old chosen to leave Vicarage Road in the summer for Chinese club China Hebei Fortune. Instead Ighalo turned down a lucrative deal in order to stay with Watford.
That decision has been more than vindicated and his goalscoring exploits in the top flight haven’t gone unnoticed.
Bids for Ighalo are expected in January. Watford are unlikely to entertain any of them. But that may change next summer, as Flores accepts.
“Ighalo is very clever,” Watford’s head coach explained after his side’s 3-0 win over Liverpool.
“He chose five months ago to stay at Watford. When he did that he imagined something special.
"He knew what the best option was. I think he will finish the season at Watford. After that nobody knows.”
