Ighalo putting pressure on himself-Flores

By Our Reporter
QUIQUE Sanchez Flores has vowed to take away the pressure' from Super Eagles Odion Ighalo.
The Hornets chief has spoken out on the Nigeria international after his dismal run in front of goal continued when he missed a hatful of opportunities in Wednesday evening's 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.
Ighalo was linked to the top Premier League clubs in the January window after he scored 13 goals in the opening 19 games of the season.
However he has found himself in a rut, reflected by the fact he has managed just two goals in 12 matches in all competitions since the turn of the year.
Flores feels Ighalo is putting too much pressure on himself to score and that is having a negative impact on his game, which they need to try and address.
He told the Observer: "He's not scoring so we need to support him a lot. Of course, the moment he scores it becomes easier for the team.
"My work with Ighalo now is to try and take away pressure. He has put pressure on himself. It's like he feels he has to score. That isn't the best way to recreate a good feeling.
"It's a mistake to put pressure on himself. He needs to work to separate the feelings of scoring with the feelings of playing with freedom in the team."
Flores added: "Ighalo is a little bit frustrated. Strikers need goals to feel good. You can feel he is trying but sometimes he makes bad decisions. I support him more than ever."
