THE President/Sole Sponsor of Go-Round Football Club of Omoku, Bro. Felix Obuah has described the death of former Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi as a rude shock and utterly devastating.
Obuah, in a statement said by Keshi’s death, Nigeria and the global football community has lost a sporting personage who principally put Nigeria on the top spot in world football.
The Go-Round FC financier whose club won the 2016 Rivers State Federations Cup called on the Keshi family as well as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to take heart, adding that though the iconic coach may have died, his name would remain indelible.
Obuah who recently sponsored the first ever Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championship in Rivers State, regretted that Keshi died at a time when his Nations Cup conquest both as player and Coach was very fresh and still being celebrated by Nigerians.His words: “Keshi has etched his name in gold and football history has a permanent place for him. As a player of repute, he won the Nations Cup in 1994 and when Nigeria found itself on the lowest ebb of football, Keshi was engaged and the country was promptly rewarded with a Nations Cup victory in
2013”.
The Go-Round financier further said that that singular act of the late Super Eagles coach depicts a high sense of patriotism and commitment to the nation, adding that not done with the Nations Cup victory, Keshi surpassed the performance of his foreign coaches predecessors by taking Nigeria to the
World Cup where Super Eagles, for the very first time, reached the group stage of the tournament.
Obuah, who is also the Patron of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) recalled that the Late Stephen Keshi exudes what he called a cool, gentlemanly disposition on and off the field, saying the football world would miss him for a long time to come but drew solace in the fact that
his memory would live on.
