Rescue Heartland from relegation, Group beg Rochas
A group, Concerned Heartland Supporters International has called on Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha to save Heartland FC from relegation.
Speaking through its coordinator, Callistus Onyegbaduo, the group, whose membership cuts across the globe, bemoaned the club’s precarious position in the NPFL.
“We have noted what is happening in Heartland FC this season and it is very appalling. Heartland’s place is not in the relegation zone in the league. Everything should be done to ensure that club does not go down”, he said.
He continued; “Our investigation has shown lack of care and attention by the government for the welfare of the players. This has led to many of the players leaving for other clubs and further depleting the club. We want to enjoin the governor to come to the club’s aid and release their monthly subventions as at when due”.Onyegbaduo reiterated the club’s rich history.
“We have supported this club from birth. Many of us have traveled abroad but we still have Heartland in our blood. This is a club that has never gone on relegation since inception in 1976. Rochas should not allow this to happen during his time. Generations unborn will not forgive him if that happens due to his negligence.
“This is the pride of Imolites. It is a symbol of Imo because it is as old as the state. Rochas should please pay attention to the players’ needs”, he pleaded.
Heartland is 16th on the NPFL log and only a point above the relegation zone.
