NIGERIA Football Federation (NFF) boss, Amaju Melvin Pinnick has explained why Coach Samson Siasia, his assistants and players of the Dream Team have not been paid their salaries and allowances, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blogspot.com.
The ex-Delta FA boss stated on Friday via social media, twitter despite informing Nigerians more than a week ago that the Glass House will use its grant from the Confederation of African Football to offset the debts they owe the various national team coaches.
He said on @PinnickAmaju:"We certainly do not want to owe our coaches, and the board is doing all we can to ensure our national team coaches get their wages.
"I told coach Siasia that the vouchers for the payment of the Under-23 team coaches, and the Super Falcons crew as well, had been prepared.
"Siasia also confirmed that the NFF General Secretary had called him, before I called, to intimate him about goings."
"I'd like to commend the sports minister as well. Aside sending the accountants to go pay the team, he also ordered that the four alternate players be paid as well. We have to remember that the alternate players aren't accredited for the games, but the sports minister paid them too.
"What the Under-23 team has achieved, and is achieving, is a thing of joy. I have spoken with coach Siasia and the team spirit is sky high.
"I can certainly understand the passion of Nigerians; football is our national sport, and we, the board and I, know this. We never forget it.
"Considering the macroeconomic situation, we are trying very hard to take our football to a higher level. It's a struggle."
