By Rasaq Oboirien
RANGERS International of Enugu reclaimed top spot of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) after they thrashed Rivers United 4-0 on a match day 34 tie at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blogspot.
Tope Olusesi opened scoring for the Coal City side in the 40th minute to give his team a half time lead.
Coach Imama Amakapabo half time pep talk perhaps galvanized his Flying Antelopes as they ran riot in the second half shooting three more goals past a helpless goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi.
Olusesi provided the assist that saw Godwin Aguda double the lead after 47 minutes of play.
Olusesi, he lost his cool, then went from hero to villain after he was shown a red card for head butting a Rivers United player after a confrontation.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Christian Madu made it 3-0 after 82 minutes with a superb volley, before Obinna Nwobodo put the icing on the cake with a diving header for the fourth goal on 84 minutes to hand the Eguma side their worst defeat of the season.
Following another review of the NPL log on account of the expulsion of Giwa FC from the league, Rangers now have 54 points from 32 matches, while Rivers United slipped to second place on 53 points, while Wikki Tourists are third having recorded 51 points.
