SHOOTING Stars of Ibadan have incurred a Five Million Naira (5,000000) fine from the League Management Company (LMC) following fans trouble that marred the match day 29 South-West derby game at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Sunday, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blospot.com.
The ugly incident occurred after the game as Sunshine Stars players and officials were held hostage at the stadium for more than 30minutes, as there was tension in the air.
Recalled players of the Owena Waves had questioned the match official's decision to award the Oluyole Warriors a penalty despite goalkeeper, Olorunleke Ojo had won the ball from a goal bound Ebitimi Agogo.
Sunshine Stars also barged at the referee after the penalty was scored by Sunday Adetunji.
Their agitations got some fans infuriated, as they then threatened to beat up any Sunshine Stars players, officials and fans blue black.
Sensing danger, the general manager of Shooting Stars, Rashid Balogun, some top officials of the club with a combine team of regular policemen and mobile policemen had to provide protection for the visiting team.
The mobile policemen led by a Chief Superintendent had to result to firing live bullets in the air and tear gas canisters outside the stadium to dispatch the irate fans who had laid ambush forSunshine Stars team bus and any car belonging to their officials.
As signal came in that the area was clear, the entire Sunshine Stars contingent were then whisked out of the Lekan Salami Stadium under high security to their hotel.
The development will see 3SC been fined that whooping sum for failure to control their fans after the game, as the away team stayed at inside the stadium for more than 15 minutes after the defeat.
