Adetunji late penalty nail Sunshine Stars

By Rasaq Oboirien
SUNDAY Adetunji's goal via the penalty spot on the dot of extra time gave Shooting Stars the maximum three points in the match day 29 South-West derby against Sunshine Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blogspot.com
The visitors took the game to the Oluyole Warriors as their counter attacking play paid off in the 22nd minute when Meshack Chukuwbuikem  profited from 3SC schoolboy defending to slice home the first goal of the tension soaked match.
Twelve minutes later, Shooting Stars leveled the scoreline to 1-1 from the penalty spot.
Adetunji gave the Oluyole Warriors fans a moment to cheer converting the spot kick after petit winger, Ajani Ibrahim was hacked down in the box by a Sunshine Stars defending as he was goal bound.
3SC could have put the scoreline to 2-1 late in the first half but the sharp reflexes of goalkeeper, Olorunleke Ojo saw him produce a top class save as he parried the ball from the bottom corner of his net.
The second half saw good counter play from both teams, as Adetunji failed to convert two clear cut chances within seven minutes.
The first chance came to him in the 49th but the ex-El-Kanemi Warriors ace put his shot wide.
An unmarked Adetunji blasted the second over the woodwork, thus piling pressure on his teammates and indeed the more than 10,000 fans that were in the stand.
Adetunji who would have been left to rue his misses, was a joyous man after wards after he converted Shooting Stars second penalty to put the scoreline at 2-1.
The spot kick was seen as controversial by Sunshine Stars players and bench as goalkeeper Olorunleke  was adjudged to have fouled a goal bound Ebitimi Agogo inside the box by the match official.
Shooting Stars quest to avoid the drop have now been boosted with the victory as they are now placed 16th on the Nigeria Premier League log with 36points.
