GENERAL Manager of Go Round FC, Soni Uboh has said their late goalkeeper, Iboro Akpakpan will not be abandoned even in death.
As a result, all back log of salary and allowances owed to him will be paid to his family as soon as monies are ready.
“Iboro was our player and the hero of the Rivers State FA Cup win over Rivers United when he saved the penalty kick that handed us a 4-2 over them in the final.
“We never forgot him even when he took ill shortly after that game.
“His salary all through the time he was in hospital was paid by us as well as allowances too and his family will still be due his salaries until the end of September 2016 when he sadly passed on,” Uboh said.
Iboro Akpakpan passed on in September after a brief illness and was buried in his home town, Ikot Ekpene.
A large contingent of players and officials of Go Round FC were represented at his funeral service including the General Manager, Soni Uboh, club captain, Nyima Nwangua, goalkeeper, Salami and other professional footballers like Bassey Akpan and Okiemute Odah.
The General Manager of the club, Soni Uboh described the death of Iboro as a sad one that took the club, Rivers State and whole football community by surprise.
“When he put a call to me and informed me he had been admitted and told me about his condition, we took care of his medical bills to the best of our abilities and when he shockingly passed on we also made a financial contribution to his family.
“What we did couldn’t have in any way brought him back but it at least showed his family that he was working somewhere and the organization he worked for would not just turn their backs on him,” Soni Uboh added.
Iboro Akpakpan played was a league champion with Ocean Boys and featured for Akwa United and Bayelsa United.
