Spanish embassy rejects Rivers Utd 51-man list for Madrid tour

By Rasaq Oboirien
RIVERS United planned tour of Spain has hit the rocks after the embassy in Abuja rejected a 51-man visa application list sent to them, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blogspot.com.
Our source in the camp of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) runners-up informed that: "I don't think the trip to Spain will go as planned as their embassy have denied us visas.
"A total of 51 passports consisting that of 37 players and 16 officials were sent to them for consideration.

"But the embassy, after studying our application turned it down on the grounds that 10 of our players are not really ours, as they found traveling visas in which they represented other Nigeria Premier League sides either in the CAF Champions League or Confederations Cup.
"They also noticed that two players on the list were under-aged and as such, should not have signed professional contract with the Garden City side.
"So, if you look at these errors the embassy stated, the club would not want to embroiled in a players transfer tussle with any club or clubs that we took their player on tour without proper clearance."
"And it will not be wise for the club management to reapply for Spanish visas as it take up to two weeks for it to be processed. If you do the mathematics and the calculations are right, we not have the time to prepare well for the up coming season in December and indeed CAF Champions League."
