SPORTS Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN)Gombe state chapter has applauded Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe state for approving, funding and hosting the just concluded 2016 NNL super four.
The chairman of the association, Halilu Mohammed Teli in a statement,described the effort at this recession period as a clear indication that Governor Dankwambo has passion for sports.
The statement added that the present administration since inception has given the sports sector the needed attention, citing the proposed Institute of Sports,promotion of Gombe United from NNL to the premier league, Jewel Bulls basketball team from Division two to one among others.
It also commended the organisers of the tournament(NNL), Acting secretary to the state government, Chief of staff government house, Chairman of the sports commission, F.A chairman, referees council, the security agents ,Gombe United supporters club for making the event successful and memorable.
SWAN, however appealed to the state government to look into the issues bedeviling Gombe United with a view to solving them before the commencement of the 2016 /2017 Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), Like brand new buses for the conveyance of players and officials,season takes off fund to mentioned but a few.
It also enjoined the supporters and fans of Gombe United football to come out enmasse during the club's home matches to ginger the players and avoid anything inimical to the club.
Gombe United kick start their season with an away game to NNL Super 4 champions, Kastina United.
