Lokosa's Esperance receives CAF $2.5m cash prize

Super Eagles ace, Junior Lokosa and his Espearance teammates will smile to their respective banks as the Confederation of African Football ( CAF) have paid the Tunisian club the sum of $2.5m dollars for winning the Champions League.

Recall that there was mild controversies that surrounded the Espearance victory over Wydad Casablanca of Morocco which prompted CAF to order the replay after Wydad abandoned the second leg due to referees and VAR errors.

Esperance took the case to Court for Arbitration for Sports (CAS) which nullified the replay ordered by CAF and Appeal Committee then ratified the decision and confirmed the Tunisia side as the authentic champion.

Espearance Vice President, Hechimi Jilani confirmed the receipt of the cash prize last week Tuesday.

“I can tell you that we have received our prize money this morning from CAF,” he said.

CAF payment to the Tunisian giants means an end to the saga that would have ridiculed African club football.
