NIGERIA recorded an outstanding performance on Monday when beat India, the highest rated outfit in their group three-nil in the ongoing 2016 World Team Championships in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Quadri Aruna gave Nigeria the perfect start in the Men Division by beating Soumyajit Ghosh (11-5, 11-4, 11-3); he was followed by Segun Toriola who accounted for Sharath Kamal Achanta (15-13, 11-6, 11-13, 11-5), before Bode Abiodun closed proceedings by overcoming Amalraj Anthony (11-13, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8).
Segun Toriola said he had told Qaudri that: “We knew before the match that it was going to be very difficult; I told him not allow Ghosh Soumyajit to play his game so that he can start the attack.
“I believe this first win really helped our confidence.”
For Soumyajit Ghosh, “This was a very important match for us because the disappointment of the Commonwealth Games was still there”, said the Indian who was thinking back to 2014 in Glasgow when India had been beaten in the bronze medal match.
“However, this match was different being a World Championship and hopefully we can learn from this defeat and take the next game more seriously.”
