Iyaye urges Rivers Utd to beat Pillars

RIVERS State Sports Commissioner, Honourable Boma Iyaye has charged players of Rivers United to ‘go for the kill’ against four-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Kano Pillars when both sides clash today at the Yakubu Gowon (former Port Harcourt Liberation) Stadium.
United have won all but one of their five home games in the NPFL this season but face arguably their toughest test of the season in front of their fans on Sunday against high-flying ‘Sai Masu Gida’.
Honourable Iyaye while charging the Rivers United players to go for maximum points against storied opposition, assured them of the Rivers State Government’s continued stance of making their welfare top priority.
“We are charging the boys to go for victory today against a very strong Kano Pillars side who need no introduction as far as Nigerian football is concerned.
“They have a crack team full of experienced campaigners in the league but the people of Rivers State will not settle for nothing but victory.“We are charging the boy to go for the kill and get maximum points to make their fans happy,” he told said.
The commissioner then added that all financial entitlement due the players this season have been paid.
“Salaries and match bonuses to date have been paid and we believe that this will fire up the boys even more for what we hope will be a great victory today.
“We are assuring the players that their welfare is top most priority for the Rivers State Government as we strive to make this institution the foremost football club in the country,” he said.
Rivers United currently occupies 8th place on the NPFL standings with 16 points from 11 matches while Pillars sit in 6th with 18 points from 10 matches.
