SUNSHINE Stars FC of Akure captain, Abe Sunday has commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the League Management Company (LMC) over the security measures put in place during the match day 29 of the NPFL tie between 3SC of Ibadan and Sunshine Stars of Akure at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
Speaking at the post match press conference, the former junior international said the security measures put in place saved the day for the Akure based team.
According to him, it was disappointing to see the actions of the Ibadan fans after the match as they made several attempts to attack the team.
"We are grateful to God Almighty who saved us from the irate fans who were determined to unleash mayhem on us, we also appreciate the NFF and LMC for the adequate security measures put in place".
"After the match, the security operatives and some top NFF officials including 3SC officials stood by us inside the stadium to prevent the fans from attacking us with sporadic shooting of gun shots into the air, tear gas canisters too and escorted us to our hotel".
Abe who expressed his disappointment at the final outcome of the match said the Akure based team will keep fighting till the end.
"We are disappointed with the result as our performance did not reflect the scoreline, two dubious penalties were awarded them and that aided them to victory".
"On our part, we shall continue to work hard in a bid to realise our ambition in a bid to make our fans and supporters happy especially Gov. Mimiko who is our number one supporter".
He however appealed to the soccer loving people of the state to continue to support the team as the ambition of picking continental ticket is still in sight.
Sunshine Stars will trade tackles with Niger Tornadoes of Minna this weekend in Akure.
