EX-Executive Chairman of Gombe State Sports Commissioner, Malam Farouk Yarma has expressed his delight after the Savannah Scorpions gained topflight football for next season.
The former FA Cup runners-up leapfrogged rivals, Dreams International FC by a point after beating Supreme Court FC of Abuja 1-3 to booked a Nigeria Premier League ticket at the weekend in a keenly contested Nigeria National League final games of the season.
The pioneer boss of GSSC and now Commissioner for Youth Empowerment said:"This achievement is timely, as the club gained promotion at a time the state was marking its 20 years of creation from Bauchi State.
"As a former General Coordinator of Gombe United am overwhelmed as the ticket has wiped out the bitter memories I had when we got relegated two years ago. It was undeserving as Heartland had no business losing on the last day of the season scandalously to Bayelsa United.
"I commend the players, coaches and management board of the Savannah Scorpions for their dedication and hard work.
"Despite the economic crunch in the country, the team showed the zeal to play topflight football next season when they got a vital 3points away from home in Ilorin against a Kwara United, whom book markers had tipped to gain promotion.
"They proved to us that it's not over until the race has been won, when they left it late to secure victory against Adamawa United. That's the spirit of Gombe United and I'm very proud to be associated with the club."
"Now that the club has gained promotion, I want to charge the team to repay His Excellency's Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankawambo (Talban Gombe) efforts towards empowering youths via sports, by winning titles.
"The team can start by winning the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 4 and from there on target the Nigeria Premier League title, Federation Cup or pick a continental ticket.
