ARSÈNE Wenger has come to the defense of Super Eagles ace, Alex Iwobi after Wednesday night 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blogspot.com.
Despite Arsenal being in front via a Marco Verratti freakish own goal, the Nigerian then gifted the French side the equalizing goal after he diverted Lucas’ header past David Ospina into the net late in the game.
Wenger in his post-match comment said: " Look, it can happen. The frustrating thing I think is that Ospina was behind him. He is certainly the most disappointed by what happened to him. But that is part of the game. We have to take that on the chin and support him and go back into the next game."
Aaron Ramsey also shared Iwobi's pain after he said, "You’ve got to feel for him, but he wasn’t aware of what was behind him. I feel for him but we’re in it together. It was important not to lose and that’s what we managed not to do."
The Gunners are likely to face group winners in the last 16 of the Champions League after a night of mixed fortunes in north London.
Edinson Cavani converted Blaise Matuidi’s pass from close range to give Paris Saint-Germain the lead, but the Gunners ended a tough first half on a high when Olivier Giroud rolled in a penalty after Alexis was brought down by Grzegorz Krychowiak.
