DOLPHIN United of Obalende emerged the maiden winners of the first annual edition of the Chief J.K.Randle Memorial Kids Cup after dispatching Adeomo Babes of Ogba 5-2 at the final match decided at Campus Mini Stadium, Ajele, Lagos over the weekend.
The tournament which was an U-15 tourney, witnessed great football artistry from the players saw the fans cheering all the moves as the likes of Salam Mubarak, Olaoye Oluwafemi took the initiative for Dolphin side to counter the goal scoring moves of Jeje Bashuru who brace during the encounter was only good for the second place.
At the blast of the referees final whistle, Dolphin were presented with a giant trophy alongside a cash prize of N200,000 while loosing finalist, Adeomo Babes received a trophy and a cash prize of N150,000.
Similarly, three-place winners, Solution Boys of Ibeju-Lekki who defeated Ikotun-based Glory FC 2-0 in the classification match got N100,000 for their effort while the loosing side smiled home with N50,000 for their effort.
Already, the organizer has assured that next year's edition will be bigger and better as plans are on the winner to accommodate the females while more individual prizes will be up for grabs.
Speaking with newsmen after the presentation of awards, Mr. Hollist Oluwatosin who stood in for the sponsor, Bashorun J.K. Randle assured that the yearly tournament has come to stay.
"We are already working towards a bigger championship next year as we are satisfied with what we saw today judging by the performance of the teams on the pitch," he admitted.
Meanwhile, captain of the victorious Dolphin side, Aleilo Faud is looking forward to more honours next year.
"I feel great leading my team to victory today and we are hopeful of keeping the trophy next year," stressed a jubilant Fuad .
The J.K Randle family has been supporting sports and education for almost 100 years.
interestingly, oldest sporting competition in nigeria is the J.K Randle Swimming Competition which commenced in 1928.
