Mikel is yet to make a Premier League appearance for Chelsea since the naming of Antonio Conte as coach, is still under contract with the Blues until next June.
Recall ex-teammate and Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba last week advised the Nigerian to accept a deal from Marseille rather than move to China or Qatar.
"Mikel will find relevance in Marseille. I told him how well I was treated during my stay there. Above all, it will allow him to stay close to his family," said Drogba.
