Oyo, Kwara in line to host Gold Cup 2017

THE 5th edition of the Nigeria's most prestigious domestic league pre-season tournament, Gold Cup could be hosted by either Oyo or Kwara State.
General Coordinator of the tourney, Tunde Shamsudeen, disclosed to Gold Cup Media after Lobi Stars of Makurdi were crowned champions of the 4th edition after they beat Mountain of Fire Miracle Ministries of Lagos 4-3 on penalties after the regulation time ended in a stalemate.
"The next edition of the Gold Cup could be moved out of it original home, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State to either Oyo or Kwara State.
"Reason been that, we want to spread it to other Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fans state.
"If you know the NPFL history, you would agree with me that there's a good follower-ship in both states. As its either you are a Shooting or Crown FC fan in Oyo or Kwara Utd or ABS FC fan in Ilorin.
"Aside that both states boost of good sporting facilities as two games can be hosted per day.
"Also the hotels there too are affordable for any team who wants to have its pre-season camping in either of the state."
Recall Ijebu-Ode has hosted four of the Gold Cup events with the following teams Sunshine Stars, defunct Sharks FC, Kano Pillars and Lobi Stars winning the trophy that's donated yearly by Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari.
