AFCON 2017: Ighalo, Ekong to open Eagles camp for Tanzania

ODION Ighalo, and Rio Olympics Bronze medalist, William Troost-Ekong and three home based stars are to open Super Eagles camp for Saturday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against Tanzania tomorrow (Monday) in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blogspot.com.
Ighalo, whose Watford side failed to spark against Arsenal last Saturday in an English Premier League game and defense William Troost-Ekong will be the early birds from Europe alongside Nigeria Premier League trio of Emmanuel Daniel, a bronze medalist at the Rio Olympics, Ikechukwu Ezenwa (goalkeepers) and Jamiu Alimi (defender).
Team captain Mikel John Obi, fresh from leading the Nigeria U23 to Olympic bronze in Brazil, is expected to arrive at the team’s Le Meridien Hotel on Tuesday.
The qualifiers is a needless one for both teams after Chad pulled out from the championship leaving Egypt to pick the sole ticket as Group G leader.
NFF Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme is already Uyo, ahead of the team’s assistant coaches and backroom staff due in town on Monday morning.
Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr, who'll be in Uyo on Monday, will use the match as a rehearsal for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying Series Matchday 1 clash with Zambia in Ndola on 8th October.
