SUPER Eagles centre-half, Leon Balogun has been certified fit to start against RSC Anderlecht of Belgium in tonight's Europa League at the OPEL Arena, reports NaijaSportsXtra.blogspot.com.
The Nigerian who missed out in Nigeria's 2018 World Cup qualifying games against Zambia has been out due to injury he sustained during the Zerofivers home loss to Bayer Leverkusen.
Balogun who began light training session after the international break could feature against RSC Anderlecht after passing a fitness test.
The Bundesliga club via social media informed: "Fabian #Frei and @LeonBalogun played a full part in the last training session and passed their respective fitness tests. #UEL #M05RSCA."
Meanwhile Martin Schmidt says the team wants to get its first ever Europa League home victory and get one step closer to qualifying for the knock-out stages.
The Mainz manager feels a sense of positive pressure, not only for the next Europa League fixture but also within the team because of the increased competition for places. Mainz’s successful start to the season has made the players who don’t get so many chances to play even more eager to get into the starting eleven. “As manager, I have had the task of picking a team from a large squad of players. However last time, I had barely any choices to make because so many players were out injured,” said Schmidt in the press conference ahead of the match against Anderlecht.
